With an increasing focus from organisations being targeted towards sustainability, PFM GROUP understands every company has their own goals in place to achieve sustainability across the different aspects of their operations.
Carbon Footprint
Passionate about the environment and sustainability ourselves, we have designed, and strictly adhere to, an environmental policy, covering everything from procurement and paper waste, to water management and wildlife. In addition, our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) accreditation helps to guide our practices of reducing our environmental impact.
We are cognizant of the crucial need to be eco-friendly in every aspect of the business, from increasing our range of rechargeable battery-operated equipment, to our requirement that all waste from our landscape maintenance activity be recycled at local waste transfer stations. We are also committed to operating out of strategically located depots across the UK, in order to minimise our carbon emissions when deploying our staff to localised sites.
Bird Boxes
A recent initiative of ours has been the purchase of several Bird boxes & Insect houses from our long-term charity partner, The Emily Jordan Foundation, which are then installed on a number of our sites.
These Bird boxes provide suitable habitats for hole-nesting birds where more natural nesting habitats are becoming scarce. When the boxes are not being used for nesting, egg laying, and as a home for fledglings, they can provide somewhere for birds to roost, as well as be protected from bad weather. Similarly, the insect hotels, constructed mainly from recycled materials, are also designed to mimic natural habitats such as nooks and crannies for mini beasts such as ladybirds, bees, spiders and woodlice to shelter, nest and hibernate. In the long term, providing habitats for wildlife and insects will enhance pollination opportunities, providing fruit and flower benefits to the wider community.
Community
PFM Group has a long-standing relationship with the Emily Jordan Foundation which helps adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities to develop work-based skills with the aim of finding and remaining in employment. Their trainees are supported in a wide range of projects, from learning to carry out horticultural work, to the servicing and repair of bikes. A particular specialty of the foundation is, of course, the building of these eco-friendly bird boxes and insect hotels we have taken such a fancy to.
